Hi, I'm Doug Marks with Metal Method guitar lessons. Since 1982 I've been teaching people to play rock guitar with my Complete Basic Course. In the beginning my lessons were taught on audio cassette, then videocassette, now we're on CDs, DVDs, and digital downloads.
I call this The Complete Basic Course because it reflects everything that I think you need to learn to play in a band, jam with your friends or just have fun playing music. One of the great thing about this course is it continues to evolve because of you. You tell me what you want to learn and I try to make that happen. I occasionally revise the course and include everything that you request in the revision. This has been going on for almost three decades so we're getting pretty good at this.
Today many guitarists are learning to play by studying video and tab on the Internet. What I can offer you that the Internet doesn't provide is structure. I can take you step by step through a process that has taught hundreds of thousands of people how to play guitar. When trying to learn without a plan it's very easy to spend months going down a path that leads nowhere. It's also possible to not understand a simple trick that's necessary to master a technique. I've guided thousands before you through this journey successfully.

The course is divided into 24 weekly lessons and you're expected to study each lesson for more than 20 minutes a day, five days a week. Truth is some of these weekly lessons might take you a month or more to master. This is a process, a guideline, a path and I can't give an exact time that it will take you to master this information. Chances are this course will still be a reference for years to come.
The most common question about the course
The question that I'm asked the most often about the Basic Course is this: “I've been playing guitar for XX years and I know how to play songs and leads but I'm still missing a lot. What lesson should I start with?”
From my experience it's normally best to purchase all six Stages at once which is The Complete Basic Course. Sure, an intermediate level guitarist doesn't need to learn how to tune or other basics but I bet there's something in every Stage that will be of interest to most guitarists. So, start at the beginning and move very quickly through the first few Stages. Since you started at the beginning you're not missing any of the structure that we've created for you since 1982. And when I say we, I mean Metal Method students and myself. You'll find in studying my course there is no substitute for the experience that I've had teaching thousands of other guitarists just like you since 1982.
